My Lotus Elise Sport 160

I brought my Lotus Elise Sport 160 in June 2001 from Nick Whale Sports Cars in Birmingham. The car was amazing and extremely fast on acceleration but a little slow on top end. I only had the Elise for 12 months due to a change in job so I never had the opportunity to take it on the track where a car like this really can perform.

There are no official figures on the 0-60 time for the sport 160 that I could find but it was around 5 seconds carry all the way on up to 137mph. The Elise was surprisingly good on fuel and averaged around 30 - 35mpg. The engine was a Rover 1.8 tuned to 160bhp normally aspirated.

One bad thing about the Elise for me was the cost insure it, I was only 21 when I got the car and it cost £2800 Fully Comp with Barclaycard Motor Insurance. My Elise was number 5 of the first 50 Lotus Elise Sport 160's to ever be made having the full 160bhp, later models only had 150bhp. Also later models were group tested, the first 50 were SVA tested.

Pictures of the Lotus Elise Sport 160 can be found in my car gallery.
